Help with building an RC boat?

i'm looking build wooden rc boat. think fun project , might turn out cool. i'm thinking of building frame balsa, covering with stained balsa, coating waterproof polyurethane. tips? biggest thing need how set engine setup. don't know how make can adjust speed , turn via rudder or having engine move. it's small scale way.
