Thinking about buying a used car, a subaru or bmw?

i'm deciding between 2 cars used. 1996 bmw 328i or 2004 subaru legacy touring wagon 2.0i. live in japan, things might need know etc machine, shaken, , road tax. etc has credit card in automatically charges when use speedway, of them expensive tollways. makes driving on cheaper on weekends, 10 bucks compared 50. shaken japan's necessary car check needed every 2 years , costs $2000. road tax how sounds. costs $600 year.

here's specs on bmw:
car comes car-navi, etc machine (highway payment) , new 6-cd changer. road tax paid may '11. shaken valid november '10 no expected issues renewal. odometer has under 80,000 km on it, or 49,700 miles. no real cosmetic damages. shaken helps there's nothing wrong car until has renewed again.

here's specs on subaru:
milage: on 175,000km or 108,740 miles. shaken: valid until feb/2012. price: 280,000 jpy or $3125. dvd navigation system, 18inch alloy wheels, etc system, trap-tracker system. (what's trap tracker system?) bonus: known safe vehicle.

here's thing, 1 car new somehow managed lot of miles on within 7 years. other car older has 50,000 miles on it. 1 better? , then, bmws known fickle, mechanically? expensive fix?
