Mercedes benz 450 SL headlights make humming noise on the dash?

i'm going have speculate little here, since i'm not familiar car. newer cars use low-amperage switches control headlights, typically stalk on steering wheel. actual current switched relay in fuse compartment under hood. headlights draw lot of amps, , draws lot of current can hum if contacts aren't solid. if car has switch pulls straight out dashboard turn on lights, it's controlling current directly, , contacts worn. recollection of these things pulled knob halfway out parking lights, , out full headlights. high beams controlled foot switch above , left of brake pedal.

may have toggle switch. more common on european models. not change analysis of problem.

i'm not sure find replacement switch. old sls collectible, there car clubs on line point source of oem replacement parts. if cannot find exact replacement, might able use car. depends on how important keep car original.

when lights turned on, there persistent humming noise seems come headlight switch; car 450 sl 1980.
