how come if use 2 different browsers different number of search results?

example term 1 (3 words) brings in 231,000 using google chrome , ie 196,000 results using firefox.

also,

google display websites have visited @ top of serps? have new website have been working on, view in chrome check displays ok find site #1 in google chrome term.
same website on page 4 in ie , firefox.

thoughts?
