Need help, legacy is stalling out?

have 96 subaru legacy, 103k miles. check engine light has been on awhile. took autozone , said knock sensor.

tonight check air filter out , disconnect battery few min. reasoning behind clear old computer codes out , make sure knock sensor problem. battery hooked up, try , start car. starts , runs, after couple seconds stalls. kinda sputters out , dies. not getting enough gas or something. if keep rpms up, maybe 3k or higher won't stall, let idle, cuts out , stalls on me.

ideas on this? seems weird happened after disconnected battery. maybe reset in computer?
