Do movie theaters sell more tickets than they have seats for?

when purchase tickets on fandango.com movie (i got them new moon in beginning of october) guaranteed seat in theater? going 1 of sold out shows tomorrow night @ 7, , picking tickets in morning out of way. anyway, it's unrealistic of me go movies 7 hours because have work, cannot go theater until 6pm. guaranteed seat? don't care is, def. seat in theater?
