How can i prevent brake fade?

have 2000 jetta vr6, front rotors lipped , replacing them cross drilled rotors. notice after 45+minute commute home work brakes coming off freeway close end of commute have noticeable brake fade. cross drilled rotors enough overcome or should switch pads using? suggestions pads use? ceramic or what?
