Why is poetry so compelling and memorable?

why poetry more memorable, enticing, emotive , engaging??

why saying in few words more sum of parts- far more compelling same story told in prose???

can remember random lines poems, , poems in entirety- little more odd line thousands of books ive read.
occasional lines stick- ‘gave of drowned person’- prose, little more.

poems seem recall far higher percentage of ive read, , hit me far more directly-
'nor half turn go, yet turning stay'- (c- rossetti)
why better 'i started go stayed', or- 'i began move away, pulled myself back, you???
