Math : Two boats travel at a right angle to each other after ..........?

each boat travels along leg in right angled triangle hypotenuse of length 20 miles. let denote distance slowest boat travels x miles. other boat travels x+4 miles (since travel 1 hour). since legs in triangle pythagoras yields:

x^2+(x+4)^2 = 20^2

when quadratic equation solved x yields x=-16 or x=12. since dealing distances consider positive solution x=12. means slowest boat travels 12 miles.

two boats travel @ right angle each other after leaving same dock @ same time. 1 hour later boats 20 miles apart. if 1 boat travels 4 miles per hour faster other boat, find rate of each boat.

speed of faster boat =
speed of slower boat =
