How does Mercedes Benz's new brake light system work?

i’m doing research hope guys can me out here.
mercedes benz has 2 system (i think) braking lights, 1 on (as see) when normal braking applied (slowing down or stopping) , 2 (which newest system) flash (i think 3rd brake light) when emergency braking applied. how that? work speed sensors or pressure applied brake pedal or what? how done?
