Paint thinner on canvas..?

awhile ago, started paint (only 1 coat), , didn't painting going, stopped painting.. have idea want paint, , wondering if use paint thinner old paint off, use same canvas, , old paint wouldn't in way of new painting. don't know if using paint thinner off idea.. better try , paint on it, or should paint on whole thing white paint, , paint on top of that..? think?
