I have 1997 mercedes benz s320 and the check engine light doesnt work when i turn on egnition what can be wron?

bulb out. access bulbs need pull out instrument cluster , access bulbs behind. this, need benz cluster removal tool (basically 2 long , thin rods hooks on ends pull out cluster). little tricky though because need , smoothly. if inadvertently pull out cluster fast on 1 side , stuck/wedged in place, easy crack case trying loose again , costly mistake.
can buy bulb @ benz dealer. they're pretty cheap. pull out bulbs need first , bring them sample make sure you're getting correct ones.

how take off odometor panel? , can bulb?
