U.S tax return for expats living in the U.S - Help!!?

expat uk living in new york, united states. past 2 years have had tax preparation paid company work , prepared 1 of big 4 accounting firms. year, not paying , on own. income earned in u.s. don't have foreign earned income. don't have properties or complicated situation except classified expat.
don't know start preparing own tax return. turbo tax , h&r block softwares ok me use? understand pay federal, state , local taxes. mean need file separately each?any pointing me in right direction appreciated.
