Help me choose between a Mercedes or a domestic car, (ford, pontiac, etc)?

i'm looking dependable practical car purchase in cash, try stick domestic brands because parts more readily available, i've been offered older mercedes, not sure year, in great condition, , i'm wondering, mercedes more reliable , perform better pontiac or chevy ? or same performance of domestic brands plus lots of "hype?' offered mercedes $2400 cash , it's in great condition. feedback welcome, info mercedes or car, advice welcome! i'm listening! can't wait see responses!
