Do I have to join domain to add a network printer?

have 5 laptops in house + 1 pc. printer connected pc, router wireless.
printer has ip , has wifi.

trying add printer remaining laptops using printer's ip.
each time click next after typing \\printer's ip got error ... "windows cannot connect printer. either printer name typed incorrectly..."

doing wrong? have create domain , join domain?
