Car insurance problems?!?! Need help!!?

hubby took out insurance 10 months ago new insurance company. had 4 years no claims old company informed new company of this. new insurance company have been taking out payments every month our bank have never had insurance documents off them. when contacted them other day query informed him because old insurance company not supply them no claims info can not cover him. time , today have taken monthly payment. surely should not taking payments saying can not cover?? have sent him 30 day temp cover note while try sort isnt looking @ mo. question should have cancelled agreement before , ceased taking money our account?
