if means using different web hosting companies - it's not idea - both performance , security reasons.
you'll have work firewalls ensure application server can connect database server. you'd need set application code have url(or ip address if has static ip ) of other server. of time connect database jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/dbname ( mysql example ), in case change localhost database servers network name.

is there step setup site in other host , mysql in other host ??
