contemporary ballet falls under contemporary dance. contemporary ballet started balanchine , nycb. contemporary ballet more done en pointe, not always, whereas contemporary dance can en pointe, soft ballet slipper, barefoot or in socks. there fine line of difference between them.

if asking competition dance studio class, have own definitions , don't fit same things in professional dance world. suggest watch class or of videos see mean. lyrical in base , danced contemporary music vocal track. find in professional dance. honestly, have never seen in professional contemporary dance. never lyrical nature. competition schools tend make emotional whereas real contemporary dance abstract , totally devoid of emotion. find more pedestrian movements in professional contemporary dance , less "tricks." see pirouette, splits or fouette turns. find in competition dance relies on how high can hold leg up. 1 high art, other flash or sport.

way, @ concert too. amazing! got totally drenched though. bad had cancel second company (lucinda childs) because of rain. looking forward seeing that. of daughter's friends dancing brooks , childs , wanted give them support. agree, brooks piece fabulous!
