New Epson Printer and a New Macbook?

got new macbook few days ago(yay!). , came free epson stylus nx400 printer. it's nice printer. other day installed mac software, installed pinter software. printer on, , used copy something, , when try print printer name shows , printer list , everything.
but, when try print says "waiting device, connecting" stuff that. printer on , wont anything.i left sit long time see if took while - nothing happened! have computer , printer hooked cord , everything. document isn't reaching printer whatever reason.

how can fix printer can work on project , print things out?
