Help with SEO please...need to do it on my own where do i start?

remember, search engine's prime directive find:
a) relevant information searchers and...
b) quality information searchers

relevance determined "on page criteria" e.g keywords used in domain name, page title, meta tags , body text (btw search engines no longer fall trick of writing keywords in same colour background, way smart black hat seoers)

quality measured human response or "off page criteria" e.g how many incoming links (back links) there are, quality of linking sites, how long people stay on site, how return etc. etc.

bottom line - make sure have used relevant keywords on page criteria , provide great quality content satisfy off page criteria.
