M4/a4 Commute!how hellish can it be?

have travel car(as live in sticks) osterley marlow. there little choice , whilst know commute pants, (already know a40), wonder if can give me rough idea of route/ relative worst rush hour journey times?is better drop down through northolt off a40, or stick m4, jct 3 , a4?any train journey hellish involving 4 changes , id have drive station first anyway.cheers!
