My 1990 Mazda Miata goes into gear but just wants to rev and not move.?
clutch plate worn out, or wearing out. here things consider:
1. up-grading lighter flywheel.
2. replacing rear engine seal.
3. replacing flexible hose on clutch more durable.
if plan on doing job yourself, start getting parts lined up. if plan on having shop work labor prices. shop not out cheat not charge full time rear seal. add few minutes total, not double charges.
took me few shops locate 1 let me provide parts, , job. many shops in smaller communities lump mazda's , think flywheel replacement hard on miata rx7.
bought 10 lb flywheel, stage 1 clutch disk , stage 2 pressure plate off of e-bay. has been in car 2 years no problem. advertised stage 2 clutch set up. stage 2's have puck clutch disk , use full disk street applications. light weight fly wheel reduces rotating mass in power-train, freeing horse power. little touchy when starting on grade because engine can stall easier, on great improvement.
if want top of line, check out flyingmiata and/or miatamania. there other online places shop (goodwinracing, planetmaita).
check out miata.net other popular up-grades.
fyi check exhaust header leaks.
i have 1990 mazda miata 5 speed rwd car , today when driving home go gear wouldn't speed go 5,000 rpm in 3rd gear , going 30 mile hour. wondering if it's clutch or if else.
