Hp w1707 wide LCD Monitor sound issues?

bought hp w1707 wide lcd monitor 2 years ago , since has been working fine. had format hard drive , install windows xp (previously vista) onto computer , had issues getting built in speakers work. had gotten them working formatted again yesterday , since, cannot them working. display works fine cannot speakers working @ all. have reinstalled drivers several times included cd came monitor , installed them hp website. when scrolling on webpage or moving open window, lags bad , jumps around bit. still scroll , moves window not smooth @ all
