Need advice on buying a plane ticket?

im going paris, france around june 20 not know return date until june 13. return either july 31 or around late august (depends on if have take college class on summer). right flights leaving june 20 , returning july 31 los angeles @ around $1550.

question is: buy ticket right assuming ill return july 31 , if have change return date $200 charge (making total of $1550 + $200 = $1750 if lengthen trip). or wait until june 13 (7 days before intended departure) , buy then, risk plane ticket increase alot of money?
