How do I apply oil paint to a plaster sculpture?

taking sculpture class , supposed use oil paint color our plaster sculptures.
began acrylic paint , wants use oil on top. i'm pretty figuring out things myself i'm not quite sure how supposed work. have mix (linseed oil, etc.)? confused. ideas appreciated!
