Why do Aircraft still use VOR in the age of GPS navigation?

gps - vors historical, aircraft have navigation equipment on board can use them, , aerials controlled atc authorities - ensuring minimum disruption. gps new(ish), not aircraft gps equipped, , if system went down....chaos!

frequencies.......the range of each frequency dependent upon power of transmitter. also, vhf frequencies depend on " line of sight" not bend around curvature of earth. therefore, aircraft flying on uk, , of controllers working @ swanwick in hampshire, there need use transmitters , receivers situated around country , relayed down swanwick.

same true actual radars used - situated @ various locations, such clee hill, controllers can control in different areas of uk. other radars situated @ pease pottage (gatwick), claxby (lincolnshire) , debden (stansted) - name few.

also why in uk there sites cleehill , kelsall lots of frequency listing london control. frequencies route london atc @ swanwick airlines flying in class airspace in area??

in advance
