Flatscreen monitor not recognize; resolution problems, help!?

bought sharp aquos 37" make work dell inspiron desktop. right click > personalize > display settings, there's no resolution there lets me have decent graphics quality takes full monitor. right i'm @ 1680 x 1050 (native, apparently) , makes simple square-shaped screen black sides. i'm using vista 32-bits. when try modify monitor settings, (i dont know if help) says i'm still "using" 19-inch dell monitor had before. doesnt seem recognize lcd tv.

knows how fix this?
