Is a Volkswagen Jetta good enough for an infant?

wife , have our first child. drives volkswagen jetta. wondering if smartest car have newborn on board. know volkswagen supposedly makes of safest cars, it's such small car, thinking of getting mid-size suv of sort. safety #1 concern. not sure if sticking jetta makes sense, or purchasing bit bigger. please advise. thanks
