Tips for photography with a not so good camera?

have kodak m1073is digital camera. 10.2 megapixels. when first bought thought great thought wrong. takes average pictures, , im interested in photography. im starting im not going buy new camera right away. there tips make pictures little better, or tips beginners photography?
